3Electricity cost savings
AMPCO’s
bottom line is your bottom line. We exist to save members money. We lobby for
good policy. We intervene in regulatory hearings to get lower rates. Here are
some examples.
·OPG Rebates— AMPCO built a strategic
alliance of seven major associations that lobbied successfully for the
extension of revenue caps on the unregulated generation assets of Ontario Power
Generation.Estimated savings:$1.70/MWh average 2006-2008 for a total
savings of over $450 million.
·Hydro One transmission rates—AMPCO‘s
intervention (pointing out errors and questioning assumptions) was instrumental
in the OEB ordering lower transmission rates. Estimated savings: $1.47/MWh in 2007-200 for a total savings of $31
million for AMPCO members alone.
·IESO ramp rate multiplier—AMPCO
challenged this market rule change at the IESO, appealed the market rule
amendment to the OEB and then filed a review in the courts when the OEB failed
to take action. AMPCO’s intervention delayed the implementation of the rule by
at least 18 months. Estimated
savings: $1.27/MWh in 2006/2007 for a total saving of $148 million.
