AMPCO 2007 Fall Members' Meeting

Join us on November 8 for the fall meeting of AMPCO members. The theme for this meeting is “What customers should expect in 2008.”

The Ontario general election is behind us, so we can move on to the big decisions that lie ahead:

  • Nuclear: Who will build it? What will they build?
  • Environment: Will the coal plants close on schedule? If not, then how will the government address air quality and climate change issues?
  • Electricity costs and price: If costs keep rising, how will manufacturing continue to compete? What to do with smart meters now that they’re being installed?
  • The role of OPG: Operator or developer?
  • Agencies and oversight: Will the government address the ABC’s?

The Ontario Power Authority has filed its application to the Ontario Energy Board for approval of Ontario’s first Integrated Power System Plan and Procurement Process. The OPA has also launched new demand response programs for industrial consumers.

The Ontario Energy Board has approved transmission revenue requirements and rates for Hydro One Networks Inc. Those new (and lower) rates will be in effect from November 1, 2007, to December 31, 2008. Hydro One is now moving forward with an ambitious plan for transmission reinforcement in the province.

Ontario Power Generation is writing its application to the OEB for approval of costs, revenues and rates for its prescribed assets: the generating facilities at Niagara Falls and on the St. Lawrence River, and at Pickering and Darlington. These assets produce electricity worth billions of dollars each year. Even a relatively small change in these payment amounts can make a big difference to customer bills.

The IESO is consulting on a high-level design for a day-ahead electricity market in Ontario.

Please plan to attend this important meeting for a comprehensive high-level briefing on priority issues for electricity customers in 2008 and beyond.

A detailed agenda and registration form are available on-line. Please click here for more information.

Warm regards,

President
